Skip to main content Mathematics University of Missouri Main menu Home Math Placement Undergraduate Program Graduate Program People Search form Search Math Placement Math Placement Home About the Test Do I Take the Test FAQ College Algebra Exemption Transfer Credit or Dual Credit Math Course Prerequisite Info Dates and Deadlines Proctored Placement Test After the Assessment FAQ Login to the Test Mathematics Course Placement In order to qualify to take a Math department course at the University of Missouri, students must have one of the following: a minimum score on one or more MyMathTest placement tests (Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Pre-Calculus) credit for the prerequisite course taken at MU transfer/dual/AP/IB credit for a prerequisite course NOTE: Statistics, Financial Planning, or other math-related courses offered outside the Math department do not fall under the above guidelines. Check with the appropriate department for prerequisite requirements for those courses. Choose the option that describes you best: I will be starting at Mizzou as a new student in Spring/Fall 2020 Take an online survey to determine if the Math Placement Test is required for you! Answer just a few questions about your major, test scores, and credits, and we will provide a recommendation. Once you have completed the survey, return to this site for more information, or to take the assessment. If you are not sure on how to answer the questions on the survey, we encourage you to take the Math Placement test. Reminder : The survey above is not intended to replace the advice of your academic advisor. Your advisor may interpret additional information and make a different recommendation. In those cases, you should follow the advice of your advisor. For those for whom the Math Placement Test is recommended or required : Deadlines for Completing the Math Placement Test I am a current MU student who needs to sign up for a Math course 1. Determine what math course(s) are required for your intended major. If you are uncertain about the requirements, check with your major department or in the University course catalog . 2. Do you have credit for the required math course(s), with a grade of C- or above? (Credits earned from MU or from transfer/dual/AP/IB credit .) If you already have credits for the required math course(s) for your major, then you will NOT need to take the ALEKS assessment. 3. Do you have credit for the prerequisite math course(s) , with a grade of C- or above? (Credits earned from MU or from transfer/dual/AP/IB credit. ) If your credits were earned at MU, and you took the course recently, then you do not need to take the Math Placement Test. If your credits were earned as transfer/dual/AP/IB credits , then it is recommended that you take the Math Placement Test, in order to be certain that your prerequisite skills are up-to-date. If your Math Placement Test score ends up below the minimum level for the course you plan to take, you'll have the chance to review before your course begins, or you may choose to retake a lower level course to brush up on your skills. The low Math Placement Test score won't block you from enrolling in your math course, but it can be an indication that review is needed. A higher Math Placement Test score may also qualify you to take a more advanced math course than you would using your existing prerequisites. 4. Is Math 1100 (College Algebra) the only Math department course required for your major? If the answer is Yes , then check to see if you have a College Algebra Exemption . If you have an Exemption, you will NOT need to take the Math Placement Test, because you will not be required to take a Math course while at MU. If the answer is No , then you ARE required to take the Math Placement Test. 5. Have you taken the Math Placement Test or the Proctored Math Placement Exam previously? If so, check to be sure that your score has not expired. Visit the FAQ page to find out how to find your Math Placement Test scores on myZou . The valid dates for Math Placement Test scores each semester are listed below: Valid dates for your Math Placement Test scores: for Fall 2020 courses: Math Placement Test scores dated 9/15/19 or later for Spring 2020 courses: Math Placement Test scores dated 2/15/19 or later 6.
